Ben Vandenberg and his family grow apples on Bell Road in Wainfleet, with a bakery on the farm. Apple picking opens in early September, with Honeycrisp, Gala, Ambrosia, Mutsu and Spy among the varieties, and the bakery makes bread, cookies and pies, their crust a mix of butter and shortening from an old family recipe. The farm has added a corn maze, a kids' activity area and brunch in the orchard, and the family also runs a shop in downtown Grimsby.
